One weekend in 2022, our co-founder, Jan van Ottele, was in Bruges, Belgium, where he encountered something unexpected at the limited AC charging stations: blocking fees. This concept, which was still rare in the Netherlands, struck him as counterproductive—a punitive measure unlikely to encourage EV drivers to vacate charging spots promptly. Most EV drivers, particularly those from the Netherlands, use company cars with company-issued charge cards, meaning they would never personally face these fines.

 

Jan thought there had to be a better way—a more positive approach that rewards good behavior rather than punishing the bad. And so, the idea for PowerGoodies was born: a simple, effective Rewards Program for CPOs designed to incentivize responsible EV charging. With PowerGoodies, the benefits go directly to the EV driver, making the experience rewarding in more ways than one.

 

Upon returning to the Netherlands, Jan reconnected with his previous co-founders from AirBeamTV, Roeland van der Spek and Demid Borodin. Together, they embarked on the journey of building PowerGoodies and securing their first CPO customers.
